"THE" Hog Haven Breakfast Sandwich

Here at Hog Haven we love our wide and growing selection of value-added and pasture raised, all natural, heritage pork products, but it's "THE" Hog Haven Breakfast Sandwich that really drives our business. After being inspired by a locally produced English muffin that we came across a few years back, we started making the sandwich as a promotion for our packaged meats. But when people began lining up for it at our Charlottesville location, we knew we were onto something. Made with Hog Haven pork, our own take on a classic breakfast spice blend, high quality grass-fed Irish cheddar, a choice of our homemade sauces, and, of course, the famous local English muffin, we believe it's one of the best breakfast sandwich experiences you'll find anywhere. Of course, as you’d expect, it's always best hot right of the grill at the market, but we recognize you can't always eat yours right away (and during COVID at most markets you aren’t even allowed to) and would sometimes prefer to take home and eat later. Even at room temperature, they generally aren’t too bad, but in order to maximize the enjoyment, we strongly recommend reheating the sandwich before eating, if it’s cooled down significantly since you bought it (we also offer them frozen on our online store for preorder by the way). But to heat them up easily and just right, try using these instructions:

  1. Remove sandwich from its wrapper.

  2. Place on a microwave safe plate and/or wrap in a paper towel.

  3. Heat on high for 30 seconds (microwaves vary, so you may find you need to add or subtract 5 seconds or so for yours).

  4. Take warmed sandwich and place directly on the rack of your toaster oven.

  5. Heat in toaster oven for one full medium toast cycle (again, some variation will exist between ovens, so adjust accordingly - try not to over toast).

If you don’t have a toaster oven, placing right on the oven rack for 5 minutes at 375F would be recommended. If you don’t have a microwave, then opening the sandwich up and heating for 6 or 7 minutes in the oven or toaster works pretty well. For the frozen sandwich, these same instructions apply, just make sure to let thaw first.

Again, hot off the grill at the market is tough to beat, but following these instructions you should get a sandwich that’s crispy on the outside and soft and warm in the middle...pretty delicious.

Enjoy! And don’t forget your Hossome and BoJo sauces!
